March

March is that wonderful time of year when the cold starts to retreat, and spring slowly begins to show its flowers and four-leaf clovers. It’s good to have luck around us in Pirate101 as promises of greater things draw nearer.

If you casually skipped over the Falmea Friday from last month, you’ll want to go back and check it out, as there was a pretty amazing concept art piece shared with those who participated. It makes a pirate wonder when the next Falmea Friday will be and what hidden treasures will be shared, aye maties?!

Read on for a look back at the previous month and for your regular articles about Pirate101.

Rogue's Gallery: Gaspard De Vole

After completing The Presidio, all players will receive one of five companions. This companion is determined by how your parents died, and Gaspard happens to be one of these companions! You learn a bit about him in a few quests, but let’s take a closer look at this Guinea Pig Buccaneer's past.

“Subject: Gaspard De Vole
Home: Valencia
Weapon of Choice: Halberd
Occupation: Pirate

Welcome to the Pirate101 Rogue’s Gallery. Subject, Gaspard De Vole

Since the days when Valencia was still little more than an outpost of the Great Aquilan Empire, the De Vole family have been skyfarers. Sometimes sailors and sometimes pirates, there have been as many Admirals named De Vole as there have Pirate Kings.

Gaspard was born to Vincenzo and Bianca, two exemplary sailors, and learned how to tack sail before he could walk. After a few brief outings with some of the many crews that sailed Calabria Skyway, Gaspard enlisted in the Valencian Navy. Within a year his skill and ability had put him on the path to become an officer. It seemed Gaspard had a bright future ahead of him – until Napoleguin came to power.

At the Battle of Taliferro, Napoleguin’s navies utterly smashed the Valencian forces despite their superior numbers and firepower. This was, ultimately, the battle that gave rise to the Armada: after the crushing defeat the Guinea Pig and Unicorn corps of officers found themselves drummed out of service in favor of Kane’s automatons.

Having failed at military service, Gaspard drifted into his family's other penchant: Piracy. He signed on with the Monquistan Pirate Alonzo and quickly rose to the position of second mate. After Alonzo retired from piracy following the loss of the Golden Frond, Gaspard signed on with another crew led by a happy couple seeking their fortunes.

Gaspard led a happy life after; he was making more than enough loot to send back home to support his family when, yet again, his happiness was destroyed by the Armada. The pirate couple’s ship was utterly destroyed, and Gaspard’s happiness along with it.

Gaspard retreated back to Skull Island, hiring out with various crews here and there but his heart was no longer in it. When he was captured during an attack on a Monquistan Tresure Galleon and imprisoned in the Presidio as a suspected spy, he was sure that his life had come to an end... until new hope came to him in a rescue by someone he barely suspected was still alive.

These pirates and more await you when you play for free at Pirate101.com.”

Vadima’s Visions: Take the Skyway that’s the best!

Hello my Pirate friends! It is good to see you again and thank you for visiting Madame Vadima on the official message boards.

Question from Silver SwordCoral, “Hi my question is what is yours and the other trainers favorite thing to do when not training pirates?” Why thank you for this question, Silver! I can’t speak for the other trainers, but personally I used to tell people’s futures in the Kraken Skulls . . . but too many people kept spilling drinks, and Vadima will not scry over spilt milk.

Here’s another question that Vadima can answer from Captain Black Wolf Bowman, “Which skyways (besides Skull Island Skyway and maybe Avernus) are the most and least visited by pirates?” Hmmm, this is kind of a difficult question. The Crystal Ball can clearly see the battles that take place in these zones, but not so much the random pirate that may be simply floating around and not engaging enemies. They’re just too sneaky. Hmmm, let us look deeper with that in mind.

AHA! As you predicted Skull Island Skyway is of course the number one skyway for ship-to-ship combat . . . and without much surprise the Tradewinds Skyway is right behind in popularity, but what may come as a surprise is that more combats occur in the Cooper’s Roost Skyway than in the Aragon skyway and even the Flotsam Skyway.

Look and see! The Crystal Ball is giving us bonus information, Captain Bowman! If you count the Corsair’s Cove as a distinct skyway, it would be the least visited one followed by the Skyway where you encounter the Scylla in Aquila. If you don’t count either of those areas as Skyways, then the Achaean Way would be the least combated skyway. If you expanded this to also Vortex’s, then the Vortex of Strife in MooShu comes in at the most quietly combated area in Pirate101. So sorry, Chung Po . . .

The visions fade, my friends. Thank you for your questions! Be sure to stop by the official message boards and let me know what’s vexing you!
