Let's get festive for the holidays!

We here at KingsIsle love the holiday season! Every year we host our 12 days of the Spiral where you can find giveaways, special deals, and more. We hope our pirates enjoy the surprises we have in store for them this festive season. Don’t forget that a new season of PvP is almost upon us and our latest producer’s letter will be coming this month as well!

As for November, we enjoyed a wonderful month where we saw a new Forest Tiger Mount introduced to the Crown Shop and felt the warmth of Thanksgiving and Veteran’s Day. Read on for a look back at the past month along with our usual offering of fun articles for you to enjoy.

Rogue's Gallery: Count Brastillo de Brass

This month we return to our Rogue’s Gallery with a spotlight on one of the more nefarious enemies a pirate will face . . . the Brass Monkey aka Count Brastillo de Brass. Pirates will encounter Count Brastillo de Brass a couple of times and some may even consider him a true nemesis to your pirate. Let’s take a closer look at this intriguing bad seed.

Welcome to the Pirate101 Rogue’s Gallery. Subject, Count Brastillo de Brass.

Brastillo was not born into nobility: he was the son of a peasant farmer in the agricultural province of Camargon, one of the last places in Monquista where the desert has not yet devoured all the crop lands. Short of stature (even by Monquistan standards), Brastillo endured the taunting of many bullies as a boy, until he discovered his best weapon against them: his volcanic, irrational rage. When provoked, Brastillo fought like a wild animal, pummeling bullies into submission, no matter how tall.

One day, while visiting Camargon on a tour of the orchards, the great monqistador Goronado happened to witness one of young Brastillo’s fist fights. He took a liking to the boy and his fierce spirit, and took him away to become a soldier and give him a proper outlet for his anger. Brastillo learned the finer points of tactics and swordplay, but found his true calling in the navy, sailing the open skies. Brastillo’s brilliance at naval combat was unmatched – his cunning, fearlessness, and ferocity made him more than a match for any foe, no matter how much he might be outclassed.

During the Polarian War Brastillo served with distinction, defeating dozens of Penguin men-of-war. He won his noble title for his brilliant maneuver at the Battle of Calloo, where his squadron defeated a Polarian fleet three times their numbers. Peace was difficult for Brastillo: he yearned for the thrill of battle, the satisfaction of breaking his enemies and forcing their humiliating surrender.

He continued to serve in the navy, and pulled strings to be assigned to Skull Island, where the competing colonial interests of Monquista and Marleybone filled the skyways with opposing ships, and “accidents” resulting in skirmishes were all too common. Brastillo gained quite a reputation among the ships of the Royal Navy. Indeed, it was the Dogs of Marleybone who gave him his infamous nickname: the Brass Monkey. Brastillo became the most celebrated captain in Skull Island, defeating more than a dozen Marleybonean ships in single combat.

Brastillo was on top of the world, until a brash young pirate changed everything. Defeated and humiliated, Brastillo vanished from Skull Island, abandoning his post in the Monquistan Navy. Now the Brass Monkey sails the skyways as a renegade, devoted to one goal – he will have his vengeance. Oh yes, he will have his vengeance!!!

The Hunt for Hybrids!

Players continued to hunt down those elusive hybrids in Pirate101. Some can be very tough to discover, but we’ve got a pretty good bunch of detectives among us. A few months ago we noted that a Snow Scarab was found, but the combination wasn’t discovered. This past month, the secret formula was revealed by our stalwart players. Also found this month was the Rime Jackalope. What new hybrids will be found this month? Perhaps Vadima knows?

Books for the Cultured Pirate

Hello again, my Pirate friends! I, Librarian Aldelmo, am so happy to see you again. I have a wonderful tale of a modern day hero . . . who’s clever enough to possibly have been a descendant of pirates. Have you heard the tales of Hopper? No? For one thing, even though everyone knows her new school is creepy, she's the only one who's convinced that if she solves all the mysteries she'll find a secret room full of skeletons holding piles of cash. Now that sounds like a pirate to me!

Secret Coders is the start of a new graphic-novel series by Gene Luen Yang and Mike Holmes. (You might know Gene Luen Yang for writing the graphic novels of Avatar: The Last Airbender.) In Secret Coders, Hopper teams up with a guy named Eni to figure out why there are numbers written all over the school. That leads them to solve a lot of other puzzles that you can try to solve as the story goes on. But there's a lot more to the story than just answers to puzzles - like who the green-skinned guy in the principal's office is, why Hopper's dad is mysteriously missing, and what the janitor knows about it.

If you like this book, the sequel, Paths and Portals, will be published in August! See you next time, my Pirate friends.

Vadima's Visions: Of pets and quests

Hello my Pirate friends. It is so very good to see you again! I see you come here seeking knowledge from Madame Vadima concerning a couple of subjects. Thank you for your questions.

First we have a question from HelenaQ, “How many pirates complete every single quest in the game, from Skull Island to Aquila, side quests included?” Let us peer into my crystal ball together and see if we can find an answer. Hmmm, I see not many have completed all the quests they could since the very beginning of Pirate101. I also see that it may be impossible for some to truly complete ALL the quests since many have changed over time. In fact, one name comes out in front of all others as the master of completing quests: Seth Vane. This solitary pirate has been with Pirate101 since the start and has also completed many of the quests that have come in later years, like the housing quest, the pet quest, and the gratitude statue quest. Good job, Seth! You’re a true questing pirate.

As for the currently obtainable quests in Pirate101, I see a number . . . less than one half of one percent of pirates above level 10 will ever complete all their quests. Get to questing, pirates! Maybe someday Professor Falmea will grant pirates a find hidden quest button? Until then, good hunting!

Second, we have another question from the “Pirate Crusher” who asks, “Out of all the pets in the game, what is the Least known pet and the most owned pet” Let us peer into the crystal ball once again . . . I see a pet . . . and what is this? It is quickly changing colors back and forth! I see what this means, friends. The most owned pet by far is the ostrich; however a hybrid of the ostrich is the least owned pet as well. What a spicy clue! Good luck with your morphing pirates!
