Rogue's Gallery: Deacon

We’re closing out our recent look at the Armada elite with a final foe that every pirate is sure to have encountered from the Tutorial or in Cool Ranch. How much do you really know about the soul-less spymaster of Kane? Watch and read to find out:

Welcome to the Pirate101 Rogue’s Gallery. Subject, Deacon.

Deacon, Spymaster of the Armada, is arguably one of Kane’s most fully realized and horrifying creations. Deacon was designed to utilize all of Kane’s natural intelligence and cunning. While he does not possess the raw strength of Rooke he is also mercifully free of the impulsiveness of Phule. In many ways he is an even colder reflection of Kane himself.

In the aftermath of the Napoleguinic War, Kane realized that his opportunities to use the raw power of the Armada’s military might had become limited. He could no longer risk using his forces to “colonize” no longer disputed territories now that the Allied Powers of Marleybone and Monquista had solidified their borders.

It was time to use “diplomacy”.

Kane created Deacon to serve as the head of his diplomatic corp. He acts as ambassador to the Spiral and also is Kane’s spymaster, head of a network of spies that has ears and eyes throughout the Spiral (some say infiltrating even the highest levels of foreign governments).

After the War it was Deacon who consolidated The Armada’s position as “protector” of many of the worlds conquered by the forces of Polaris. Under his influence (and the command of Kane himself) Valencia went from being merely an expansive merchant power to one of the most powerful military forces in the Spiral. Deacon He even negotiated the rights to explore Krokotopia – a power once only accorded to Marleybone.

As of late though, Deacon has left the management of Valencia’s new empire to his own lackeys. Instead he has been noticed in backwater climes and the edges of the Spiral. Many whisper that he is seeking something of great import to Kane. But is he seeking some thing....or Some ONE?

These Pirates and more await you when you play for free at Pirate101.com.”

Books for the Cultured Pirate

Hello again my Pirate friends! Welcome back to our grand Valencian library. I can see you’re a fan of the fantastic, yes? Well, there are lots of amazing creatures in Pirate 101, and there are also lots of amazing creatures in... a really boring small town called Buttonville? That's what Ben finds out in The Sasquatch Escape, the first book in the Imaginary Veterinary series by Suzanne Selfors.

Ben is all set to be bored spending the summer at his grandfather's. Then his grandfather's cat comes in his bedroom window carrying what he thinks is a bird - but turns out to be a baby dragon. The only thing he can think of to do is go to the only vet in town, Doctor Woo - whose veterinary practice is so boring that she only treats worms.

If you guessed that Doctor Woo's Worm Hospital is really more than it seems, you're right. (A bit like the legendary morphing tent in Bestia, no?) Will Ben and his new semi-friend Pearl manage to keep imaginary creatures from wrecking the town? Will they be able to keep people from thinking they're crazy for wanting to work at a worm hospital? Does Bigfoot have really gross toenails? Read and find out!

Puppet Pirates

Boochbeard: “Gandry, when you said you had a family reunion to go to, this was NOT what I had in mind!”

Gandry: “Hey, Cousin Pierre is just a little over-enthusiastic sometimes! ...Especially when he hasn't seen you at a family reunion for 22 years... “

Vadima's Visions: Of Ships and the Flags They Fly!

Hello Pirates! Thank you so much for joining me today. Did you know the first week in August is National Psychic’s Week? I knew you did not know this . . . the crystal ball knows all . . . unless you did know this, then forget what I just said and instead pay attention to my Message Board thread on Pirate101.com! I see I had a couple of questions about flags this month from Fiorenza Rosanante di Castagliano and Strayer75. I also see that they did not know this question had already been asked way back in October 2013. That’s ok though since it’s time to peer again into the Crystal ball to see if there have been any changes! After all, we did add several new emblems along with the Ship Emblem Alteration Service back in September 2014. Now you can make even more unique flags . . . to the tune of several billions more that have never been seen before! *Cackle* Numbers make Vadima giddy, excuse me.

Let us look deep into my crystal ball . . . .

Aha! I see that, funny enough, not much has changed since the last time this question was asked. The skull and cross bones are still very popular and red, black, and white still reign supreme! But what of our most faithful level 65 players? If we peer deeper at them, will the results be different? Hmm, slightly, but the answer is still mostly the same.

The most common flag is the default combination. Among players who were created after the new flag pieces were added, there’s so much diversity that it’s almost impossible to pin down a “most common flag.” That said, after the default flag, the basic black pirate flag is “popular.”

Seeing as it’s National Psychic Week, I’m inclined to also answer Fiorenza Rosanante di Castagliano’s other question, “Which style of ship is the most popular?” After all, when we talk of ship flags, should we not also talk of ships? Let’s again look at our most faithful level 65 players for this answer as the good old fashion raft holds strong when we look at most players.

Aha! Strangely enough, the skiffs still reign supreme for level 65 characters. The Monquitador, Pirate, and Samoorai ships are our winners for most popular ships. After the skiffs are the Galleons! The Samoorai, Eagle, and Royal Navy galleons are second most popular.

Be sure to seek after the best ships, Pirates! Getting boarded for hand-to-hand combat may not always be the best answer!

Until next time . . . please say hello and ask your question of Vadima on the Pirate101 Message Boards.
