So you probably all know of that witchdoctor power called Davy Jones' reach.

I'm watching One Piece for the 2nd time (Pirate themed anime for those who dont know) and they actually mentioned Davy Jones!

Apparently he was a pirate that has been cursed, and somehow lives at the bottom of the ocean, taking anything in sight for himself.

That could explain the reach part of the power name...

For anyone interested that's mentioned in episode 208 :)

Davey Jones is the mythological sailor's devil. Responsible for all the ill happenings that may occur while voyaging the sea. It's said that Davey Jones can be often seen perching in the rigging before hurricanes, ship-wrecks and other such dangers.

Both Davey Jones, and Davey Jones' Locker refer to the bottom of the sea, which never give's up it's dead. In other words, Davey Jone's Locker, (reach) refers to a death by drowning.

The first written reference to Davey Jones actually comes from a novel written by Defoe in 1726. But it's thought the names origin possibly comes from the biblical story of Jonah and the whale, since the name Jones is a form of Jonah. However, the legends may also have been started by a real pirate name David Jones who sailed the Indian Ocean in the 1600's, or a British Pub owner who apparently drugged sailors, locked them in his ale locker, and then sold the sailors to the British Navy,
