Counterfeit money.

Little Nancy Etticot in a white petticoat,
And a red nose.
The longer she stands, the shorter she grows.

I've not seen this phrased exactly this way before, but it's surely a candle.

And now for mine:

My sides are firmly laced about, yet nothing is within;
you'll think my head is strange indeed, being nothing else but skin.
The better I serve, they beat me more:
to dance, to play, to speak, to war.
tennis racket?

Yeah I gotcha Robert and that was indeed a great one. I was being a tad bit goofy, referring to the lesser known Lord of the Lint and how my pocket lint and old receipts always manage to twist and crumble into some pretty amazing shapes!

Watch that pencil, though....yeoooochhh!

Give me food, and I will live; give me water, and I will die. What am I?

I can run but not walk. Wherever I go, thought follows close behind. What am I?

What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?

1. Fire
2. Imagination
3. Towel

And one from one of my favorite books:
The answer to this riddle has a hole in the middle,
And some have been known to fall in it.
In tennis it's nothing, but it can be received,
And sometimes a person may win it.
Though not seen or heard it may be perceived,
Like princes or bees it's in clover.
The answer to this riddle has a hole in the middle,
And without it one cannot start over.”

Here's another one I just made up.

I am not alive but I surely can grow.
I can't be seen, but I sometimes show.
I can be found and I can also be lost.
I have no value, yet I'm held onto at all cost.

Now for one I heard recently ( I'm not good at making up riddles ):
I'm more valuable than gold, yet I don't cost a penny,
I'm difficult to find but easy to lose.
What am I?
i realize it was answered as "friend" but i immediately thought "respect"

Two legs have I,
And this will confound,
Only at rest do they touch the ground.

Very nice guess Chrissy!

My original 'answer' to the riddle was Faith, but Respect most certainly fits as well.

So, it shall be a 2-headed answer!

Always runs but never walks
Has a mouth but never talks.
Has a head but never weeps.
Has a bed but never sleeps.

Maybe a person in a wheelchair? Rest could mean death, so when they die they touch the ground. Jee, this got dark.

Nothing so depressing, it's a very common item found in gardens and construction sites.
