Question for those working in the Game Tech field

Hi all!

I'm starting school next semester for Simulation and Game Design. I'm planning on doing SGD Programming which gives you modeling, Java or C++, SGD Design, Level Design, Flash SG Programming, and SG Software Engineering among the key topics taught. There is a second branch called Art & Modeling which is very similar but focuses more on Modeling and Animation in lieu of the programming classes. My question to those who are working in the Simulation and Game field:

  • What related skills do you see becoming more valuable in the upcoming years?
  • What positions is there more need for?
  • How can a student/recent graduate impress companies through projects; what should personal and educational projects really showcase?
  • Are there positions where an employee could telecommute or is it most likely an employee would have to move to the city where the company's headquarters are based?
  • Java or C++?

Thank you for any help! I love P101 and am learning so much from a "#goals" perspective each time I play!
