I'm not sure what happened, but the targeting for area attacks has changed since the patch.
Before, when you rolled around with your area attack, all enemies that would be hit had their icons flash (the moving red X). It was very handy for making SURE that you were getting every possible enemy in your attack.
Now, the enemies within your normal attacking range (the circumference around your character where a normal attack is able to be targeted) flash, and this does not change, no matter what attack you target where. Those couple close to you continue to have the red X on them, and none of the rest do.
