One of my privateer companions, the bison chief, has its weapon power based on will. However, in battle it does not receive extra will from powers like Steadying Speech. What it did get a bonus from was Shark's Fury, a strength boosting power.
In both cases the bison chief was not standing directly beside the unit using the power.
