Since Captain Ahab is the main NPC of Jonah Town, it's likely that the whale is Moby Dick. Jonah is a reference to the story of Jonah in the Bible. He was swallowed by a "large fish" ( sometimes called Leviathan or simply has been identified as a whale ).
