Difference between Slashy/Stabby & Smashy/Stabby

I recently just started getting into this game as I just reached Level 15 and was pondering in the shop between 2 weapons of choice. They both had similar stats however one was dual blades (more swash-like) and was classed as "Slashy/Stabby Weapon" whereas the other was a long axe and was classed as "Smashy/Stabby" while requiring the talent "big choppy" which I have (being a Buccaneer). So is there actually any difference in it because they both give bonus to strength.

This is simply to let you know what bonuses you 'could' receive if you equipped it.
