Is Ratbeard based off Blackbeard?

I have two questions

1) Is Ratbeard based of Blackbeard (like the title of this topic states)?
2) If so, then who is Catbeard based off of?

I think it was obvious ratbeard was and catbeard is as well just loosley.

Of Ratbeard and Catbeard, I'd say Ratbeard is a lot more like the historical Blackbeard than Catbeard is, but he's not a direct homage, no - the name is just good fun.

And we're not done meeting pirates with names that end in "-beard"...
