Hey there, Pirate! Have you ever wanted to know exactly how many ships you have to fight and what specific quests and books you fight them in in order to complete the main storyline. What? No? Well uhh... too bad!

A few ground rules here. So, in compiling this, as any seasoned Pirate player will know, many of these ship quests are the dreaded defeat and collect quests. These defeat and collect quests can often double the amount of ships you are required to defeat. On top of this, some quests will ask for, for example, defeat and collect from 6 Black Storm Raiders in Big Sky. Now, 6 can be considered as 2 ships, since 4 are on each ship. However, to make things more convoluted, some of these quests have absurdly low drop rates and may take far more than 2 ships. So how do we account for both of these?

What I have done is taken the absolute minimum amount required for each quest. If it says 6 Black Storm Raiders, that means 2 ships. If it says collect 6 strongboxes from banditoad ships (shudders), I will count this as simply 6 ships. Now, in order to account for the inevitable pain these defeat and collect quests will cause you, I will be multiplying the ship count at the end by 1.25. Take that as you will.

Quests are separated by Book. Spoilers for the Pirate101 Storyline ahead. Enjoy!

That's all! Port Royal Skyway (Book 8) unsurprisingly ended up having the most ships, coming in at a nasty 36. Surprisingly, Book 7, the infamous 3 spirits grind, did not have many ships. The same goes for Aquila, which, while still having a moderate 25, is quite known for being one of the most painful ship areas in the game. This is likely due to the factor of randomness in defeat and collect quests, as these numbers could be much higher across players. If we add in our 1.25x multiplier, we get 215 Ships, a seemingly more realistic representation of the Pirate101 nautical struggle. Anyway, I hope you all gleamed some useful information from this little post. See you in the Spiral!

You have certainly put a lot of effort and time into this post. But the more ships you have to sink, the better it is.
You have to consider that we get our first ship at level 4, this already creates a gap that ought to be overcome.
We continually level up quickly, leaving an even greater gap between our pirate and nautical levels.
This sometimes mounts up for some players until there is a gap of 10 ( or even more ) levels between their pirate and nautical.
You can't depend on just ship quests to give you those nautical levels. You must start at once with the Sailin' task on companions if you even hope of facing those tougher ships in the higher level worlds.

a. Sinking ships is not that difficult if proper ship equipment and nautical level is maintained.

b. Making sinking ships sound difficult misleads new players.

c. Ships are a huge part of the game, and we need Badges for sinking ships.

d. We need a ship icon/smilie/emoji/thingy for the forums here.

The goal of this post was not necessarily to say "This needs to be changed" and more of a fun incite into how many you defeat across the entire game (I'll probably end up making one for enemies down the line as well). I fully support ship badges being added and especially a ship emoji for the message boards. I may poke fun at the strongbox quest and other defeat and collects, but at the end of the day, the grind is an integral part of any MMO in the industry. This isn't meant to be taken as an attack against or criticism of KI

Woah, you wrote this in 2019? People still play this game! Just like me...
Trying to defeat the Tso Warships in Mooshu with my lvl 39 Musketeer and have only gotten 1 wild rice...out of 3 ships :/ Sigh...Love defeat and collect quests!
