Would it help if you thought of them as wind-up toys instead?

I still have mixed feelings.

Congrats, Valkoor. Were you buying the packs beside the freetrader in Avery's court? I saw you there, but I was on one of my pirates that doesn't know you and you looked too busy for me to interrupt and say howdy.
Oh, well shucks Fiorenza...that surely was me!

I must have had the Crown Shop menu up and been deeply rooted in searching for some rust buckets! Yeah, I hung close to the freetrader so that I could quickly unload my duplicate pack weapons and make a dash to Circus Maximus to buy snacks when I repeatedly reached my gold limit and dash to the Bunkhouse and housing vendor. That reminds me, I would love to see our packs/banks and gold limit get another increase-- buying Booster Packs can be a bit tedious at times. But I do wish you would have said "Hello", I surely would not have minded chatting with you or just saying "Hi".

Also, I love the new weapons in the packs, but since they are so easy to come by I think it would have been neat if there were some Epic, exclusive weapons or maybe exclusive gear (besides weapons) that were much harder to come by-- maybe one or two of each weapon type. After a couple of dozen packs, I pretty much had acquired all the weapons and housing items that they had to offer...just was left hunting for the companions. Seems with the other packs, there was a bigger variety and you would still get something new after those first 20+ packs. But I'm definitely not complaining because I think it's wonderful that players who only buy 1 or 2 packs have a super shot at the awesome weapons that the packs have to offer. Plus there are some pretty cool housing items as well. And since there were no pets, mounts and other gear in the pack, it freed up some "Rare" slots for those sweet weapons for our pirates to wield.

If I were to end up with Clockworks, I simply use them as Cannon Fodders!

Consider it done, I'll jump in game and send you a couple of packs...oh wait, that's a "DO NOT", without the wink.
I wouldn't do that to you Esperanza, knowing your viewpoint on recruiting those ratchety, robotic, rogue, reprogrammed, Armada renegades.

Truthfully, I don't really care to have an Armada for a companion either...I just enjoy playing the role of The Collector. Though it will be pretty neat to take a full set into The Machine (and/or Dreadnought) and let the fun begin. I think Ratbeard should have given them all a special power called maybe...Defector or Faulty Fire or Grinding Gears or Erratic Engagement or Malfunction or Wane of Kane (I like that last one) that is specifically meant to target, weaken and malfunction Kane and other Boss/Elite Armada Agents. But some do get that Haywire Strike and it's "unpredictable effects"...which is pretty cool and quite fitting for being unstable mechanoids.

But yeah, I just like to collect the pack companions-- no matter what kind they are. KI could put Formidable Fruit companions in the next booster pack and I'd be quite tempted to go try to bag and gobble them up-- yep, they would be ripe for the pickin'.

My Armada crew, seeing as what trouble their kind caused us pirates, will probably end up relegated to Pet Dropping doodie...I mean Pet Wranglin' duty. (after some fun, of course!)
A tricky power would be ( and would show pirates just how untrustworthy an Armada companion could be ) is Traitor's Strike - occasionally & without warning your Armada companion will rebel and hit you, a companion, team mate or pet with an attack!
But that's too nefarious!

Your idea is very well thought out and in my Rake's Lagoon house, there is a wrecked Armada prison ship - that's where they'll go ( if I'm "unlucky" enough to recruit one).
I'm very glad that you're enjoying your new crewmember. Please understand that I'm not grudging those who wish to get one - but, I wish these companions were in the crown shop instead of in a pack.
By all means I completely understand, at the end of the day it all comes down to personal taste.

I have to admit though, after playing for a bit with my new companion, I realised that I'm in Mooshu.

It is going to be extremely inappropriate to be socialising with, let alone

be seen conspiring with a CLOCKWORK IN MARLEYBONE!!!
Needless to say for that world I'm going to have her hunting down nautical EXP.

And thus Anecorbie planted a seed that will sprout into an idea of pure evil in the mind of Ratbeard.

I don't think he needs any help in being nefarious!

Indeed, I was hoping for some outfits as well.

Armada-related "treasures" would have been interesting -- gear, gloves, buckles, etc. -- as well as a new outfit for our pirates. However, there were probably many players who didn't like items that were only good for selling for gold... wait, isn't that what we do with all the extra weapons and housing items? I guess I just liked the concept of "treasures" and the idea that they could possibly become valuable as crafting goods or something.

You are absolutely evil when you start thinking about things the clockwork companions could wind up doing. Don't give KI any ideas, please!

Lol, "clockworks" & "wind up"! Was that intentional?
Here's another nefarious idea of mine: sometimes for no apparent reason, your Armada companions goes "SPOING!" and falls to pieces, the Resistance may have reprogramed them, but who said they did a good job? Of course they'll be alright for the next fight ( as long a Gracie has duct tape on hand ).

Absolutely unintentional, I'm afraid.

That would be funny. Not so much for the folks who want to use them as their top tier companions, but amusing for the rest of us, for sure.

Between that and her last suggestion, I could begin to think Esperanza is secretly in league with the Armada.

I think Kingsisle should lower the price on the pack from 399 to 299. It's hard enough to get a companion. I don't feel like wasting money on furniture.

Wait until a pack sale. Besides, aren't the weapons worth the purchase?
