I read in the Player's Guide that privateer companions use will to fight, but I thought we used strength to fight. Can someone please tell me what stat privateer companions use to fight?

Hi! Strength is needed for fighting, and Will is needed for healing. I'll double check the Player's Guide to make sure it says this.

It seems the most powerful attack stats for any companion are accuracy and +damage. Strength, Will and Agility boost special attacks and for every 5 of those stats you have, you gain +1 damage. So, if you have 10 Strength on a Privateer companion, that translates to +2 damage. I haven't seen any privateer companions that have direct damage attacks, usually, they just have Rouse, which would be boosted by Will. So, if you want to rasie a Privateer's attack power, first get all the damage bonuses, then strength. That will effect all of their regular attacks. For stronger healing, boost will. But I don't know if the boost would make that much difference. Those points are better spent on defensive traits like dodge, then armor, then resist, since that's the order in which they will be the most used to block attacks.

Raise the strength.

You can only use heal 1x during the fight. All the other actions are attacks. Thats teh way I break it down anyways.

Heals are VERY handy when needed.. but bang for buck is how I choose.

I said it once and I'll say it again and again and again.. the privateer talent to boost will needs to boost both will and strength. The privateer companions that only help with attacks need to have their highest stat being strength and not will. This strength/will ambiguity is making the privateer much weaker than it should be.

Thing is, even if you were to boost both stats, in the end, this would not yield significant amount of extra damage to be even noticeable. I mean, unless the boost boosts the stat by 30+ points.

Until the two heavy classes get beefed up a bit more, I'd say consider the privateer more of a jack of all trades and master of none, rather than a specialist.
