Instead one making one team to go at a time, make everyone go the same phase, to build up some action and suspense.

Anyone oppose?

All this would accomplish is a lot of "missing". Yes, the rounds would go faster, but the strategy would turn from what it is, to everyone just running around the board hoping that their opponent is staying still so that by the time they move to that spot, there's still something there to hit. No, I think it will have to work the way it is for skirmishes. The faster action will come in the form of ship battles when that is introduced. For now, PvP will be a bit slower, but still possible to play.

Yes, this would cause a first turn advantage problem, like the current problem in PVP on Wizard101.

Secondly, players going first could move their companions out of range of the 2nd player, so that player would lose their turn. The chess based system is perfect, it gives each side a chance to decide what it wants to do and removes any first turn advantage due to distance.

I think what they have created is a great concept.

Wouldn't really work well. No reasons\ to say why it won't work, you just probably didn't think the idea through enough

that would mess the whole thing up. imagine selecting someone and you go last. that person would move and you would either hit that person 5 blocks away with a melee attack or hit the air
