Captain Dan - must I buy Book 8 Ch 1?

I am trying to follow the promotion quests for Lucky Jack Russell and trying to get to Captain Dan in Scurvy Dog. It says to get to Captain Dan in the temple hideout I must buy Book 8 chapter 1. I have been buying chapters as i level.

Do I have to buy that chapter to get to Captain Dan to promote my companion? I am only level 22 and that is a long way off.

Just pay for the main quest for now. Someone is going to tell you to go there and you can talk to captain dan as well as do the main quest.
