What is specialty of the companions that are privateers?(Wing chun, Lucky Jack Russel,) The privateers are supposed to boost up their crew, but what about the companions? Almost none of them have powers or heals! I know they have the most health, but really, it doesn't really make a difference as armor seems to have a bigger role then health. Is there anything else they're good at? Some only have one heal that isn't very effective and they have not so good accuracy. The only REAL privateer I can think of is Gracie Conrad. I'm not saying companions are bad, I just want to know what is their superior stat over the others. If it's health...doesn't really live up to :Armor :Accuracy :Damage and agility and : I have no idea...

Generally I train mine like any privateer. High in strength and Will if the have heal. Although with some it is hard. The Kurgha Captain Kzinti Singh is a Privateer with no healing but we are not able to boost his strength at all. I am not sure what is up with that. I do notice that he has a gun so I train him similar to a musketeer, High Accuracy and life. This one I train high Resist as he cannot be trained in Armor either. I did give him overwatch since he has a gun. You basically train for what they have, If they heal then boost Will, and train for their weapon. Shield them however you can and if you can't then boost their life. You just look for strengths and weaknesses and protect and boost as it allows you.
As a general rule I boost all the way in Damage and what ever the base school boost is (privateers Strength & Will, Swashbucklers Agility, Buccaneers Strength, Musketeers Agility & Witchdoctors in Will) with the exception for ones like my Kurga Tiger that will not allow me to boost his Strength, then you look for a way that boosts their weapon, then you help support what ever their weakness is. It isn't a set rule as each companion is different. Like Old Scratch, His accuracy is terrible but we can't boost his accuracy one bit nor can we give him a second chance skill so I just make him as strong as I can with Mojo Echo x2 and Improved Mojo Blast x2 then I consider him a Squishie that I need to protect because once he gets on a roll he does some serious damage.
They are all different and I love that about them. A bit like us, no one is unique and you work with what you have.

The way I think of it like is how Privateers are the enemies of Witchdoctors. They have Epic talents like witchhunter. Privateers have the highest magic resistance allowing them to not take a lot of damage from witchdoctors. I do think that all privateers need some sort of healing, damage protection spell, or buff of some kind, but who am I to say.

Like Privateer player characters, privateer companions are generalists. All the other classes have a special area of combat that they are the best at and usually the same big weakness for all companions with that specialty. Privateers are never as good as the best class for a particular combat style, but they can competently fight in the style they use. They generally have better overall defenses than the true specialist, but they pay for that defense with weaker attacks. They are the oddballs that don't fit neatly into the four molds. Of course, there is some variation within each class of companion, like a Melee witchdoctor and a buccaneer with witch spells, but privateers probably have the widest variation. Like Chrissy said, each one is unique, work with what you have. And quit trying to fit them all neatly into pigeon holes.
