A Request / Complaint / Problem

Hey there everyone, I am new to the forum system. I am a somewhat active player on P101, and I would like to make a complaint / request.

My Problem / Complaint: During game play, especially boss fights, I crash quite a bit. I get back on, to see that my three active companions are wounded, offering me a choice of either reviving them (Quite a pricey cost of gold though) or trying again another day. When companions are wounded, they have lower health points than they originally do for a certain amount of time (varying upon that companion's level).

I have other companions available, yes, however most companions do not have the same chemistry or effectiveness as my usual companions, making them impractical in combat. Spare companions are either too low or are just simply not at all good at fighting. I could indeed buy training points to raise the level of said spare companions, but as you get further in the game, training points get higher in gold cost, which would cripple a player's gold, which is very crucial to buying new gear, ships and ship parts, making the idea of raising the level of spare companions a poor choice, from my perspective at least.

I find it unfair from my point of view, that by simply crashing, which I do not have control over, I suffer when I come back online to see my best companions wounded. The Wounding mechanic itself is not bad of an idea, in fact, it makes the game more challenging and demands the player to be careful and plan strategically in combat. However, I just find it very stressful that I suffer from this mechanic even though my companions do not get wounded by my own choices and actions. It's the crash that triggers the supposedly fair mechanic.

I have played both Wizard101 and Pirate101 for quite a few years now. Both games are amazing, yet the penalty for losing in a duel / combat are quite different. In Pirate101, you simply interact with a life fountain to heal your character, but your companions are then wounded and are then less effective, drastically lowering your chances of winning / going further in the story, until your companions recover after hours. In Wizard101, you simply regenerate health (or collect health wisps) and can quickly gain back mana with mana wisps, then try again. I just want to point out how more devastating it is to lose in combat in Pirate101 than in Wizard101, in my point of view, at least.

My Request: I humbly request a staff member to look into this, and make the game bearable for those who crash. Though I am but a patron / player (Just a person that has no true power / authority), I would truly appreciate this. The crashes truly inhibits me from fully enjoying this amazing game made by an amazing team. I understand if this will take time, or if this is not doable in the end.

I would also appreciate any reader to reply to this message with their own input. Thank you all who have took the time to read. Really, it means a lot. Cheers~\(^-^)/\(^-^)/\(^-^)/

Welcome to the message boards, Feng Vu! If your computer is crashing a lot ( every hour? every day? ) could it be that you need to update your computer? Or at least have it checked for malware? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be my router, getting a new router solved the problem.
If you're logging on during peak hours on a crowded server this could cause lags and crashes ( I avoid Avery realm because of this ).
The wounding mechanism can't tell the difference between a crash and a purposeful disconnect. I think it was instituted to prevent players who think they are losing a battle from disconnecting.
Best of luck,

The wounding/Bed Rest of companions is a common complaint for those who insist that only one set of companions will do. We have a HUGE variety available, so why stick with just three? You will never learn to adapt your strategy to the varying talents of the enemies you will encounter as you level up through the game.

If you rely on melee companions, but what would really work is a crew of ranged attackers, you are handicapping yourself. If you don't ever use your witchdoctor, like Old Scratch, you will never find out if his Mojo Flow power will boost your own attacks.

Granted, losing connection and crashing is not fun -- have you contacted Tech Support? Do you have driver issues on your machine?

Sorry to hear that you have crashing issues. Have you tried playing on other computers to see if it's a problem with your current computer? Older computers aren't exactly the best at running newer games, especially MMO and MOBA type games. Also, have you tried making sure that your computer isn't infected with any viruses and/or that everything that can possibly contribute to your crashing is disabled/fixed? Sometimes having less programs running in the background helps speed things up gameplay wise.

In regards to Companions, part of the reason companion wounding exists is to encourage players to use other teams of companions outside of just their main group, and by leveling them up and training them you can help ensure that they put up a much better fight than they would otherwise. Yes training tomes increase in cost as you level up, but keep in mind that you don't have to use them right away, so you can purchase some at a cheaper price, level and still have them available to use. If all else fails then you can always put your companions on tasks to level them up and (in the case of max level companions) get training tomes.

Our crews get quite large, and though not all of them are quite as fantastic as, say a Bonnie Anne, most of them are quite useful. Some are specialists for particular purposes, and yes a few are not well liked for fights. We have large crews because we need them, if only because you may lose your favorite crew in fights, and need them for the next fight in those dungeons.

There is something very important which you have overlooked. When you log out, put some of the crew that are at your own level to work collecting training tomes to use leveling up more crew, the keel hauling task. Don't want to do that? Put those under leveled crew to work training themselves, the brawling task. It may take a while, but the further below your level they are, the quicker they will level up. If it takes 8 or more training tomes to get a crewman from one level below you to equal your level, yes it would take a bunch of gold to buy tomes and level them up. If you use one training tome on a very much lower crewman, they may jump up 2, or 4, or 7 etc. levels, on just that one tome. If you never use those crew anyway, it hurts nothing to send them all brawling. Perhaps when some of them have leveled up more, you will find more treasured crew than you realized you had. You don't mention what level you are or which bosses are giving you trouble, just that you have played for several years. It is very possible to level up an entire crew without buying any tomes. If you allow crew to be a couple levels below you, the tomes rewarded in quests do nicely. I have more than one page of max crew, and more gold than I can hold sometimes. Plus some surplus tomes, waiting for new crew, or max level raise.

Thank you all for your replies and input! I truly appreciate it~

I must say that the device I am using can easily run Pirate101, as it has ran other games that require more with ease. My internet is supposedly fast, however I had some issues with it at times, so that may be the source of my problem.

As for the rest of my companions, I usually do not have them gain experience points, as it takes far too long for my play style. I usually have my newest higher companions (The ones you earn during some sides quests or from the Main story) to get me more training points, but they won't be able to earn me free points as I level higher than them the very day I get them. The rest of my companions, I daily / hourly have them earn me nautical experience points, as I find it more helpful for naval combat, as naval gear really helps me in ship fights.

The class I am questing on at the moment is the Privateer, a class where the player buffs / heals their companions. The main companions I am using on said Privateer is The Marchioness, Commander Emmet, and Lucky Jack Russel. I have done the story line multiple times, getting better and unconsciously memorizing the strengths and weaknesses of specific player classes and enemies. I have learned these strengths and weaknesses from questing on my first max through painful experiences; an example of these experiences was having Bonnie Anne attack Rooke on the Wreck of the Victory. Funny Moments indeed. Learning that experience made me choose my companions wisely on my Musketeer.

I find that the three current companions I am using are versatile and very competent, their epics being perfect counters for many situations. Privy buffs make them a fearsome fine trio, a force to be reckoned with. Example; Emmet has Overwatch 3, making enemies have less accuracy. Marchioness and Jack Russel have Vengeance strikes and repel borders and Blade Storm triggering many criticals.

Again, I would like to thank you all for replying. Cheers~

Some extra tips on gaining tomes or gold for tomes:
1. Keel Haulin', the downside to this task is that it takes 24 hours to get a tome and more hours per companion set to this task; unless that companion has ranks in "Officer". All companions can get 1 rank in this talent - but Privateer companions can have up to 3 ranks.
2. If you're about to level up and have some gold to spend - then is the time to buy tomes, before they become more expensive.
3. Look around dungeons and new areas, sometimes there are tomes hiding in plain view. Free Tomes, yay!
4. If some companions are too low for combat place them on Plunderin' ( gold ), Scavengin' ( gear ), or Wranglin' ( pets, gear & snacks ). Keep what you need/want and sell the surplus for gold.
5. Farm for gold. A good place to farm for gold is ( Friar Sand ) North Landing, Corrupted Shrine, Verdant Dock. This instance is short and easy to do, it can be fought with "inadequate" companions and the rewards are great!
A good "sign-off" ritual for companions is assigning as many as you can to certain tasks. For me, I make sure none of these tasks go over 18 hrs. By the time I log back on, all my companions are ready to collect!

Different pirate classes play differently. Using lessons learned with a Musketeer while playing a Privateer may actually be tricking you into believing you are using the best crew available. Privateers can benefit from their companions' buffs as well as their own - did you even try using Old Scratch, ever?

Get your nautical level higher by actually fighting and sinking ships, and you can free up those companions to getting gold and tomes. Use your PET TRAINING to earn the bonus gear items that can sell for 1080 gold each at the pet gear vendors -- an easy one to use is the Horn Pipe, which can give you a Bosun's Whistle.Training pets takes NO effort other than using up your energy on them.

If you are frustrated with the disconnections, think how much stress would be relieved simply by NOT relying on your A-team alone and trusting yourself to learn and grow with different crew and tactics.

I am always reading these forums for tips and tricks others use to make the game better for myself. Many of us are hoping that by posting our suggestions we can light a candle for those who may be struggling in the darkness. However, are you blowing out that candle with the insistence that you have good night vision?

Ah! Interesting tips indeed! I will keep in mind to buy training points before I level. I also just learned that privateers can get Rank 3 Officer, a fine new piece of information. I thank you for the idea of selling gear through scavenging, a concept I had not thought of. It won't make gold collecting time stack higher by having all my companions do the same task and resources would be available a lot faster. A truly efficient idea indeed .

I am really thankful of your thoughts that fit my game style, I really do appreciate it~

Cheers~

Hey does anyone know how to restart a dungeon or quest because I was working on my witchdoctor I did a dungeon and was about to get a quest from him when I accidentally teleported and know El Toro won't show up. Please send info soon or I might delete my character.

Will it let you enter that dungeon through the door and redo the fight to pick it back up? I've had to do that before. If not, and truly stuck and unable to proceed, sounds like it's time for you to contact King's Isle support. They should be able to get your quest unstuck.

Did you try re-doing the dungeon? If this doesn't work, I suggest contacting Support for help. This may take a few days so be patient.
